Recycled slate

I have used both the "brick" and the "basket" pattern a lot over the years, usually in combination with other materials but for this commission the client wanted an all slate pieces. There is a certain beauty in the repetition of these two patters but even more so on this larger scale. The single use of slate dampens the fussiness of the patterns which again calms down the starkness of the slate . The piece is just stylish in its “simplicity” however there are 1500 pieces of slate on each of the two panels, all hand cut and placed one by one. Commission privately owned.
