Philosophy

Based on the landscape scenery and characteristics and in accordance with the wishes of the client as well as the relevant legislation, each design must be tailor made.

The philosophy is ambitious but does ensure each client a unique design. This leads to a wide range of design styles but even if Line Mortensen’s designs are not always recognizable in style they are easily recognized by their confident layout, a well thought out course strategy and a deep-rooted attention to the aesthetics of the course.

Line is not only a talented golf course architect but also a 3-handicap golfer who loves the game and it shows in her work. She thrives on producing designs for golfers who enjoy a challenge and who understand that there is much more to the game than hitting the ball out of sight with the longest club in the bag. Her work will never be just another pretty view from the surrounding housing developments or a bland design created to keep the punters happy; she simply loves the game too much to design merely trivial courses.

Line Mortensen lives in Scotland, which is no stroke of fate, and is greatly influenced by traditional golf design. Links and heath land courses are among her favourites but as new courses are seldom built on sand and not always in the most ideal of landscapes, Line lets the design style of a course vary in accordance with the differing soils, settings and inclinations of the developer.

The dream job(s)

  • Any project based on sand.
“A sandy site provides freedom for the design to be based on playability, strategy and aesthetics rather than on resolving technical issues which is so often the case - but more importantly, it would allow me to create a fantastic golf course whether this be links, heath land or any other style of course one could imagine.”
  • Any project that is out of the ordinary.
“I love thinking outside the frame and welcome projects that will challenge my professional skills in an unorthodox way.”
  • Any well balanced project.
“When the relationship between the finances available, the planning opportunities and/or restrictions and the expectations of the client are well balanced, there is no excuse not to create a great golf development.”

The dream client(s)

  • “Clients who are interested in creating not just a commercial project – but also great golf facilities.”
  • “Clients who trust me to do a good job bring out the best in me – they inspire me to be the best golf course architect I can be and this way we all end up very happy with the job.”
