Ishøj Golf Center

Taking a cue from the very flat and open landscape surrounding the village of Ishøj in Denmark, the source of inspiration proved to be “plate tectonics” – the changes in the landscape caused by external forces. The design of the course had to reflect and highlight the changes in the landscape, which had occurred during the construction of the course.

The choice of design was rooted in the landscape that was available, very stringent local legislation involving any kind of change to the character of the surroundings, but not least, in the client’s wish to construct a unique project of a robust and modern character.

Based on this design concept, every component was designed as a sculptured integral part with a very strong focus on detail. As far as planting new trees and shrubs was concerned, the intention was for the landscape to retain its open and ancient agricultural appearance, partly to highlight the unique design of the development but mainly to bring the prevailing winds into play on all parts of the golf course.

It was obvious from the very beginning that the course, with its architecturally and meticulously constructed components, would require a high degree of maintenance so it is perhaps paradoxical to report that the course at Ishøj is one of the very best kept in Denmark.

The finished project was awarded Ishøj Local Council’s “Architectural Prize 2006” and has since hosted professional tournaments and provided a severe challenge to even the most skilled of players.
