Gyldensteen Golf
Because of the course’s location on the old coastline and the flat and open landscape, the source of inspiration for this design near the landed estate of Gyldensteen at Bogense in Denmark, came from the Scottish links. The objective was to create, in no uncertain terms, an aesthetically attractive and strategically challenging golf course.
It was neither physically possible to radically change the landscape, nor was it necessary or desirable, so focus was kept on the vital details of design and construction.
The objective of the design was to create a modern course with a strong links feel. The links characteristics were enhanced by the construction of more than 100 pot bunkers and to strengthen the course’s personality, clusters of spikes (sharp, cone-shaped grassy mounds of soil) were used to define the player’s shot-making strategy on each hole and to give the landscape an aesthetically pleasing look which is easy on the eye
To uphold the existing open landscape in accordance with the original design concept, only bushes and shrubs were planted, and these were kept well away from the playing areas.
The course is still new but everything points to a very successful result for the entire project – an aesthetically pleasing course composed of golf holes demanding a very high level of strategic skills; a course for the connoisseur which is nicely reflected in the fine quality of the adjoining clubhouse amenities.
Gyldensteen Golf was voted among the 5 best courses in the “International Division of the 2007 Golf Inc. Development of the Year.”
Quote from Christine Langford, co-founder and member of The Ladies European Tour:
“Without prejudice I can honestly say that the golf course is one of the finest new courses I have played. What a change to play a course that isn’t just about length, that requires expert course management coupled with the correct ratio of good fortune and skill. It is a real credit to you and, of course, to the course designer. Gyldensteen Golf will live on long after all of us - what an achievement to create something of such longstanding quality which will be enjoyed by thousands of people from all walks of life and generations. It was a pleasure and privilege to play the course and to meet with your friends - rest assured that I will be the unofficial ambassadress for GG wherever I travel.”
